Big data analytics plays significant role to investigate low carbon built environments and the processes, complexities and uncertainties that can influence performance efficiencies of entire ecosystem. This helps to reinforce eco-centric, sustainable solutions for future adaptation and mitigation strategies to combat radical climate changes. Descriptive and diagnostic data analysis techniques investigate information extracted from environmental sources such as water and air pollution, heat and energy utilisation, built environment, and transportation to diagnose anomalous activity patterns. Predictive and prescriptive data analysis forecast risks associated with existing practices and suggests corresponding retrofitting solutions. Contextual data analysis encourages the deployment of innovative and vibrant solutions within a sector that fit better with the entire ecosystem. Big data applications, here, plays a crucial role to enable data, knowledge and services sharing across sectors such as energy, water, transportation, construction, health and education to stimulate cross sectoral, multidimensional research initiative to add values into existing services.
This workshop is dedicated to provide a unique platform to academics, researchers, scientists, practitioners, decision-makers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to discuss the roles, incentives and applications of emerging big data technologies to foster sustainable and resilient environments.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to), the following subjects:
Key outputs of the workshop will be measured against; i) how different stakeholders can create a forward-looking digital strategy to build a shared vision around it, ii) how to build long-lasting partnerships and trust relationships, and iii) how to initiate collaborative cross sectoral research boundaries and value chains.
At least one author of each accepted submission must be available to attend the workshop and present the paper, and be registered as an attendee of UCC 2018 at the full (non-student, non-workshop) rate.
Accepted papers will be published as part of the UCC2018 IEEE main conference proceedings. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their work to a forthcoming edited volume to be published by Springer UK.
Manuscripts shall be formatted in IEEE conference style and may not exceed 6 pages. In detail, authors are invited to submit papers electronically. Submitted manuscripts should be structured as technical papers and may not exceed 6 letter size (8.5 x 11) pages including figures, tables and references using the template here: https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html, Papers should be prepared in two-column single-spaced format. Authors should submit the manuscript in PDF format and make sure that the file will print on a printer that uses letter size (8.5 x 11) paper. The official language of the meeting is English. All manuscripts will be reviewed and will be judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the conference attendees. Papers conforming to the above guidelines can be submitted through the BDASE 2018 paper submission system.
All manuscripts will be reviewed by the Program Committee and evaluated on originality, relevance of the problem to the workshop theme, technical strength, rigour in analysis, quality of results, and organization and clarity of presentation of the paper.
